Flashes of Hope

Earlier this month, Captures by Erin had the honor of volunteering at Cook Children’s Hospital with an awesome organization, Flashes of Hope .  Flashes of Hope is a “national nonprofit organization whose goal is to photograph every child with cancer until every child is cured.”  To find out more about this amazing group visit www.flashesofhope.org

What an incredible experience! No sad kids were seen here! All 140 beautiful, feisty, sassy kids were so excited to be photographed before they head off to a camp designed especially for them! Some held signs explaining why they were “Kicking It”. These images will be presented to congress in hopes that more medical research will be done to treat pediatric cancers. Something I learned while there – because pediatric cancer is rare, the general demand for this medication is less (meaning less profit for drug companies) so as a result, children receive adult medications at lower levels.  The reality is, pediatric cancers are much more unique and they need specialized treatment.

I don’t know about you… but I think these kids deserve more than second hand meds.
